Meet the NITLE Staff

Ruben Ruiz


Ruben Ruiz is the technologist at the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE), where he researches emerging technologies with potential for application to teaching and learning in liberal arts environments. Recently, he has been researching agile methods in mobile development, cloud resources, and new media pedagogy, with a specific focus on smartphones. Such efforts produced the publication “Constructivist Pedagogy Meets Agile Development, co-authored with Stephen Foster, a former NITLE student intern.

Previously, Mr. Ruiz worked for a variety of technology companies, including Apple, HP, and AMD. Via his tenure at those companies, he gained experience in internationalization of team management, policy development, and process management. He has a foundation in managing global projects and supporting software deployments on various levels. His expertise includes creating apps in a variety of frameworks: iPhone, Android, WebOS, Windows Mobile. In addition, Ruben provides technical support and solutions for NITLE, including support for programs that use online collaboration and sharing technologies.

Mr. Ruiz first connected with the liberal arts college community at Colorado College, where he supported the college’s technology initiatives  , including web resources and network and email services. He also served as a liaison for administration and academic computing at the college. This experience has formed the basis for his ongoing and expanding outreach to NITLE member institutions.

Mr. Ruiz publishes on emerging technologies on the NITLE blog as well as his personal blog. He holds a B.A. in biology from the University of Colorado.
