Instructional Technologists: A Virtual Conference (Part 1)

November 16, 4:00pm - 5:30pm

For instructional technologists. Participants will consider ways to support faculty innovation, learn new skills via a choice of workshops, and discover secrets of successful collaborations on campus. (Times EST)

Delivered online in our virtual auditorium
Program Description

Front-line instructional technologists daily confront the complex challenge of understanding the teaching goals of the faculty they support and helping faculty choose tools that will appropriately support those goals and integrate well with the faculty member’s pedagogical approach. In meeting this challenge, instructional technologists who can draw on the ideas and support of colleagues facing similar challenges gain a significant advantage. Those who participate in this virtual conference will take part in three sessions addressing their professional needs in supporting faculty innovation, becoming aware of current developments in one of two areas of curricular technology, and exploring several successful collaborations between instructional technologists and the faculty members they support. Participants will also interact with peers both pre- and post-conference via asynchronous, online communications.

In this first session of the conference, participants will learn about approaches to managing faculty members’ project ideas at three campuses: Reed College, Gettysburg College, and Smith College.

Benefits

In difficult fiscal times, this entirely virtual conference provides a substantive and affordable opportunity for professional development. In a rapidly changing technological environment, instructional technologists need a strong professional network in order to support faculty effectively, even and especially where their individual skills and knowledge related to a specific challenge may be limited. This conference offers instructional technologists an opportunity to come together to engage panelists and each other on key topics and to build their professional network. Substantially extending the “Special Topics for Instructional Technologists and Their Colleagues” online event series, this conference offers more than four full hours of programming. Registrants will be able to access session recordings and supporting materials remotely after the conference. The registration fee also includes a follow-up program to be held online early in 2010. The follow-up program will allow participants to discuss how they are incorporating ideas gleaned from the conference into their second-semester work.
