Sean creates learning opportunities for educators that emphasize systems-thinking and visualization as formats for teaching and research. He frequently crosses disciplinary boundaries to provide training and facilitate discussion in the areas of spatial reasoning, complex problem-solving, and scientific pedagogy.

A Program Development Coordinator for NITLE, Sean holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Colorado, a M.F.S. from The Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College. Focusing on integrative ecosystem studies, he was a Research Associate at The University of Arizona Desert Laboratory and the University of Arkansas. His subsequent activities include service as Director of the Adirondack Watershed Institute and Assistant Professor at Paul Smith's College, Director and founding member of the Adirondack Invasive Plant Program, and Adjunct Professor for Skidmore College’s University Without Walls Program.

Sean lives with his family in an old farm-house in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. In the absence of urban amenities, they pass their time swatting black-flies, counting house-mice, and window-shopping for a vacation anywhere that’s warm. They also maintain an open-door policy for musicians, carpenters, and fellow hillbillies.
