For faculty members at participating colleges--and their academic support partners--who are interested in exploring new approaches to creative expression that enable and encourage the crossing of traditional disciplinary boundaries. Participants will consider how best to take advantage of new possibilities fostered by digital technology and how best to meet the challenges they present. (7 program units. Registration deadline: Friday, August 15, 2008)
Digital technology has opened up new means of creative expression and collaboration, facilitating interdisciplinary connections and expanding access to artistic processes. These new capabilities in turn offer opportunities and impetus for new curricula that are in tune with students' status as "digital natives." They also raise significant questions regarding the judgment of quality in art, the assessment of “new media”-based demonstrations of learning, and the potentially conflicting domains of creative thinking and digital appropriation.

Conference participants will gain new familiarity with successful curricular uses of tools such as software applications employed to create art, music, and video. Participants will leave the conference prepared to lead fruitful discussions at home about the intersection of technology and creativity.
A call for proposals (.pdf, 39.85 KB) has been issued. Proposals should be submitted electronically and are due by June 30, 2008.
N.B. All interested in participating in this program—including accepted presenters—must register to participate no later than August 15, 2008. Persons who are eager to participate are encouraged to register early rather than waiting for the outcomes of the proposal review process.
