Brief Introduction

For faculty members, program administrators, instructional technologists, and other campus professionals from participating colleges who are interested in incorporating service learning and issues of social justice into their curricular and extracurricular programs. Participants will explore how digital technologies from social software to data analysis tools are increasingly being used to support service learning and advance an institutional commitment to issues of social justice, social equality, and the digital divide. Description

At many small colleges, the institutional commitment to liberal education includes strong engagement in service and outreach as ways of learning about and improving the community, both locally and globally. Digital technologies play a vital role in such engagement and learning, supporting communications and networking and enabling multi-layered representation and information analysis. Examples include students

Conference participants will explore a wide range of technologies from geographic information systems to Internet radio and web development tools and consider their uses in supporting social justice and service learning programs. Issues of social equality and the digital divide will also be considered.

Current Agenda

A call for proposals (.pdf, 40.43 KB) has been issued. Proposals should be submitted electronically and are due by June 30, 2008.

N.B. All interested in participating in this program—including accepted presenters—must register to participate no later than August 15, 2008. Persons who are eager to participate are encouraged to register early rather than waiting for the outcomes of the proposal review process.

Interested faculty and staff from participating colleges: To register yourself or a colleague for this program, please send an e-mail with the program's title and registrant's name, job title, and e-mail address to participate <at> nitle <dot> org. NITLE will accept registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, and will invoice the registered participant (or an identified billing contact) for the participant's registration fee.

Please register by Friday, August 15, 2008. Registration is currently open and is managed on a first-come, first-served basis.
