The Network

NITLE invites independent not-for-profit colleges and universities to participate in the NITLE Network, a virtual network supporting collaboration and innovation across professions, disciplines, and institutions. The Network enables participating institutions to share their knowledge, skills, and experiences, working together to advance independent higher education through the effective use of digital technologies.

Institutions and organizations that participate in the Network receive

• 10 virtual seats in a multipoint, interactive videoconferencing (MIV) “room” reserved for campus use. Using their personal desktop or laptop computers, faculty and staff can communicate, interact, and collaborate in a web-based environment that includes audio, video, a shared whiteboard, chat, and application-sharing. A collaborative website that supports peer-to-peer exchange about using MIV is available; NITLE's "Do-It-Yourself" MIV training module, regularly updated FAQs, technical specifications, and other information to help campuses make the best use of MIV are available via this site.
• Access for up to 100 users and 10 courses in both the Moodle and Sakai open-source learning management systems. Participating institutions can test one or both systems and explore the potential of managed information services via shared, hosted instances of Moodle and Sakai. All server and application maintenance operations are included.
• Eligibility to participate in NITLE professional development programs and managed information services of the institution’s choice. Programs engage participants in a range of topics relevant to teaching and learning with technology; information services give campuses easy-on, easy-off access to key technologies. Additional participation fees apply; Network participants pay only for the programs and services they choose.
• Access to information and resources open only to Network participants, including access to NITLE peer-community e-mail lists and collaborative web resources, regular programming updates and announcements, and other participant services.

Participation in the NITLE Network is available for an annual rate of $2,500. Prorated rates are available for participation-years beginning before or after July 1, 2008.

Peer Networks and Communities

Faculty and staff from participating colleges can use NITLE-supported peer communities to interact with colleagues from across the NITLE Network around a variety of topics. Communities include discussions on core services, digital libraries, instructional technologists' issues, spatial analysis and mapping, teaching languages and cultures, and using NITLE.
