Description

Web 2.0, gaming, mobility—the sheer size and accessibility of cyberculture have transformed teaching and doing research at every educational level. Workshop participants will gain a sense of the pedagogical applications of a wide range of inter-related emerging technologies and engage in hands-on experience with two or three of these technologies of particular interest to the host campus. During the workshop's morning session, participants will review a variety of social software or "Web 2.0" projects and services, such as podcasting, video blogging, social bookmarking, blogging, RSS, and collaborative writing platforms. Other topics are wireless and mobile technologies and computer gaming. Participants will explore the landscape in which these emerging technologies rapidly evolve and interact. During the afternoon session, participants will focus on the pedagogical implications of a series of Google applications, including Google Maps, image search, wikis (Docs), spreadsheets, presentations, and Sites (Web pages), along with RSS feeds through Google Reader.

This workshop is available through NITLE's Workshops-to-Go program, which delivers professional development opportunities for faculty and academic support staff directly to participating campuses. Workshops-to-Go focus on the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning. Contact your campus liaison to explore options for bringing a Workshop-to-Go to your campus. Liaisons may order Workshops-to-Go by contacting Rebecca Davis.
