The Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded the TEI Archiving, Publishing, and Access Service Project (TAPAS) a $250,000 National Leadership Grant. The grant begins on December 1, 2011 and runs for three years. TAPAS, a digital humanities collaboration between the libraries of Brown University and Wheaton College, seeks to create a shared repository and a suite of publishing and preservation services for humanities scholars who are creating digital research materials using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines.
Faculty members at Bucknell University overwhelmingly approved a policy establishing open access to newly published peer-reviewed articles and other scholarship that they produce. The policy was established at a faculty meeting on October 4th. Bucknell will make the faculty’s scholarly articles openly accessible in an institutional repository.
The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University will host Ethical Inquiry through Video Game Play and Design: A Symposium on October 10-12, 2011. The symposium “will consider the claims that video games might serve as a platform for ethical inquiry, that they offer a new means of investigating social relations between human beings, and that their interactive capabilities allow them to act as mirrors for self-examination.” Registration deadline: Sunday, September 25.

Shortly after last year’s NITLE Summit, I wrote a letter to the community about NITLE’s re-commitment to helping liberal arts colleges integrate inquiry, pedagogy, and technology. The letter focused on making transparent the “how’s” underlying this renewed mission.
