Subject-Area Specialist | Randy Thornton
Randy Thornton is an experienced educational technologist with a background in both college-level classroom teaching in the humanities and online application and systems management.
Mr. Thornton’s major focus is using Moodle and other open source tools for teaching and learning. A former Moodlerooms employee and independent consultant, he works with a wide variety of schools and colleges, as well as non-profits and professional corporations. He specializes in custom Moodle training for faculty, instructional designers, and LMS administrators; system reviews and strategic deployment; and using other open source and audio/video tools such as MediaWiki, WordPress, Drupal, Kaltura, and lecture capture for teaching.
Mr. Thornton has seven years of college classroom and hybrid teaching experience. His academic field is philosophy, especially Asian, with a background in classics. He has taught widely in the humanities.
An active contributor to the Moodle community, Mr. Thornton has been awarded membership on the select “Documentation writers” group at Moodle.org in recognition of his contributions to community documentation. He is also the founder of LOMA, The League of Moodle Administrators, a peer-based community support group.
